What are galvanised steel tanks typically used for?
Galvanised sectional tanks are most commonly used for non-wholesome (non-potable) water storage such as fire suppression reserves, cold water break tanks, industrial process water and agricultural supplies. They're a popular choice where large capacities are needed, as panels can be bolted together on site to build tanks far bigger than a one-piece GRP or polyethylene tank could achieve.
Can galvanised tanks be used for drinking water?
Our galvanised tanks carry WRAS Approval 2007053, which covers their use with UK mains systems for non-wholesome applications rather than drinking water storage. If you need a tank for potable water, you should look at a WRAS-approved GRP or polyethylene tank designed specifically for wholesome water contact.
How are sectional galvanised tanks delivered and installed?
Tanks are delivered as flat-packed bolted panels rather than one complete unit, which keeps transport straightforward even for very large capacities. Assembly is done on site following our construction guide, bolting the panels together section by section on a prepared, level base; many trade customers self-build, though we can point you towards a professional installer if you'd rather have it done for you.
What base or foundation does a galvanised tank need?
Galvanised tanks need a flat, level, and adequately load-bearing base — typically a concrete slab or compacted sub-base designed around the filled weight of the tank, not just the empty steel. Get the groundworks confirmed against the tank's filled weight and footprint before delivery, as an uneven or under-specified base is the most common cause of assembly problems.
How long do galvanised tanks last, and how are they protected from corrosion?
The steel is hot-dip galvanised to protect against corrosion, and our production process is built around long service life with quality checked at every stage from raw steel through to welded components. For a further layer of protection, or where appearance matters, tanks can be powder coated as an optional extra.
Can galvanised tanks be customised to our specification?
