Bungs are sized to match the moulded outlet on your tank, so measure the internal diameter of the fitting rather than guessing from the tank's overall capacity. Most agricultural tanks use standard BSP threaded outlets, but older or non-standard tanks can vary, so check the thread size before ordering. A drinker float is the buoyant component that sits on the water surface and rises or falls with the level, while the float valve is the mechanism it's attached to that actually opens and closes to control water flow. In livestock drinkers, the float valve does the regulating work and the float provides the signal, so both need to be compatible and correctly matched in size. Worn or cracked floats are a common cause of troughs overfilling or running dry, so it's worth checking them regularly.

Our washdown kits are designed for standard mains or gravity-fed connections and are built to withstand typical yard and parlour cleaning pressures. They're not intended for high-pressure jet washer use, as the fittings and hose aren't rated for that level of pressure. If you need a higher-pressure setup, check the specific pressure rating on the kit before connecting it to a pressure washer.

Most agricultural float valves are designed for straightforward DIY replacement, using a threaded fitting that simply screws into the tank or trough outlet. You'll typically need an adjustable spanner, some PTFE tape, and to isolate the water supply before starting. For potable water tanks feeding livestock drinking systems, it's still worth checking the valve is WRAS-approved if mains-fed.

Rubber bungs and seals degrade over time from UV exposure, temperature swings and contact with slurry or chemicals, so it's sensible to inspect them at least once a year. Signs of perishing, cracking or loss of elasticity mean it's time to replace them, as a failed seal can lead to slow leaks or sudden tank loss. Keeping a spare bung on-site for each tank size avoids downtime if one fails unexpectedly.
