They're also popular for keeping COSHH-classified substances, such as those used with sewage treatment plants, secure and compliant on site. Effectively they act as a weatherproof, lockable housing for anything that shouldn't sit exposed next to a tank installation.

Yes, the cabinets in this range are built from GRP (fibreglass) or heavy-duty polyethylene, both of which resist UV degradation, corrosion and rain ingress far better than untreated steel. They're designed to be left outside year-round alongside a tank or treatment plant without needing a shelter or lean-to. Just make sure the base is level and, where required, anchored down in exposed or windy locations.

If you're storing dosing chemicals, oils or anything classed as hazardous under COSHH regulations, a bunded cabinet is strongly recommended and often a legal requirement. The integral bund contains any leak or spill, preventing contamination of surrounding ground or drainage. Check the safety data sheet for whatever you're storing to confirm the bund capacity you need relative to container volume.

Start with what needs to go inside — a single dosing pump and a few chemical drums needs far less space than a full control panel plus spares and tools. Leave some working clearance for access and cable routing rather than sizing to the absolute minimum. If you're likely to expand the setup later, such as adding a second dosing unit, it's worth going up a size now rather than replacing the cabinet in a year or two.

Cabinets housing chemicals or electrical equipment generally need ventilation to prevent condensation build-up and, in the case of certain chemicals, to avoid harmful vapour accumulation. Most models in this range include louvred vents as standard, but always check the individual product spec against what you intend to store. If you're storing anything that reacts with moisture or requires specific extraction, get advice before installing.

Cabinets are typically delivered fully assembled on a pallet and just need positioning on a flat, stable base such as concrete or paving slabs — no specialist plant is required for the smaller sizes. Larger units may need two people or basic lifting gear to manoeuvre into place safely. Once sited, most just require securing to the base and, if applicable, connecting up any cabling or pipework running to the tank or treatment plant.
