How it works

The ATEX Drum heater wraps securely around a 30L, 60L, 100, 120L and 200L steel drums. Its flexible heating element transfers radiant heat evenly across the drum surface. A built-in thermostat monitors and maintains the target temperature, preventing overheating and ensuring consistent performance. The ATEX compliance means the unit includes special shielding, grounding, and spark prevention components to eliminate ignition risks.

Is this heater suitable for plastic drums?

No. This drum heater is designed specifically for use with steel drums. Using it on plastic could cause deformation or unsafe conditions

What temperature range does it support?

The integrated thermostat typically supports a range of 0°C to 200°C (32°F to 392°F), depending on the model and setup

Can it be used outdoors?

Yes, provided it is shielded from direct water exposure. Always follow manufacturer guidelines for outdoor or exposed use in hazardous zones.

Does this heater require special power connections?

Yes. It must be connected in accordance with ATE X-rated electrical systems, usually using armoured cable and explosion-proof connections

How long does it take to heat a full drum?

This varies based on the drum contents, ambient temperature, and desired final temperature. On average, expect several hours up to several days depending on contents and litres / volume for full viscosity improvement.

What maintenance is required?

Minimal. Inspect the heater regularly for wear and damage. Ensure thermostat calibration and electrical connections meet ATEX standards.

If you order a tank and find it is too big, too small, or unsuitable for your requirements, it can be expensive to return. Our shipping costs cover most of the UK. However, parts of England, the Scottish Highlands and Islands (including areas north of the Glasgow / Edinburgh border), Isle of Wight, Channel Islands, Isle of Man, Anglesey, Western Isles, Shetland Islands, Orkney Islands, Isles of Scilly, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland may cost more.

Overseas orders

International orders are welcome. Payment is by IBAN / SWIFT / BIC, MoneyGram and letters of credit. We regret that credit cards are not accepted for international orders.

A purchase order is required; we will then create a pro-forma invoice, and tanks are ordered on clearance of funds.

If you require additional export documentation — for example a Certificate of Origin, or commercial invoices certified by the Chamber of Commerce — you must notify us before completion of your order, as we will have to invoice cost and admin charges to the order.

Offloading

Unless a HIAB delivery has been booked at additional cost, it is the customer’s responsibility to offload with suitable equipment on the day of delivery. A failed delivery may result in additional charges.

We recommend that installers, plant hire and installation materials — excavators, aggregates and so on — are not booked until you are in receipt of the goods. Tanks Direct cannot be held responsible for costs incurred due to unforeseen delays; please see our terms for more details.
