The Water Supply (Water Fitting) Regulations 1999 provides five backflow prevention categories dependent on the risk level of the water use.
The regulations require back-flow prevention devices to prevent the water on the premises being drawn backward into the public drinking water supply. Backflow may occur in a number of situations, including burst pipes in the street or cross connection of the mains water supply with pressurised supplies on the premises. An assessment needs to be made of the potential dangers to health of the backflow – if the backflow water comes from a butcher’s shop it is more likely to be contaminated than a newsagent.
In the legislation, fluid risk category 5 covers the following areas:
Fluid which represents a serious health hazard because of the concentration of pathogenic organisms, radioactive or very toxic substances, including any fluid which contains –
faecal material or other human waste:
butchery or other animal waste: or
pathogens from any other source.
To provide category 5 compliance, a break tank has a category ‘AB’ air-gap fitted and a pump which re-pressurises the water.

Please ensure the product you are ordering is the correct size and suitable for the purpose. Special order, bespoke and non-stock tanks are not returnable. If you order a tank and find it is too big, too small, or unsuitable for your requirements, it can be expensive to return. Overseas orders
International orders are welcome. Payment is by IBAN / SWIFT / BIC, MoneyGram and letters of credit. We regret that credit cards are not accepted for international orders.
A purchase order is required; we will then create a pro-forma invoice, and tanks are ordered on clearance of funds.
If you require additional export documentation — for example a Certificate of Origin, or commercial invoices certified by the Chamber of Commerce — you must notify us before completion of your order, as we will have to invoice cost and admin charges to the order.
