The tank needs a firm, level, well-drained base capable of taking the full weight when loaded — concrete or compacted hardstanding is standard. You'll also need access for delivery vehicles (many larger tanks require offloading by crane or forklift) and a nearby power supply for the electric pump. Keep clear space around the unit for vehicle access during refuelling and for any required fire separation distances.

Yes, the tanks and dispensing equipment themselves are fuel-neutral and work equally well for red (rebated) diesel used in agricultural and off-road plant, or standard white diesel for road vehicles. What changes is your legal obligation around usage records and declarations, since red diesel use is restricted and monitored by HMRC.
