Heavy Duty Containers FAQs

What's the difference between a mortar tub and a general-purpose stackable tub?

Mortar tubs are moulded from thick, rigid plastic to withstand mixing, scraping and the weight of wet mortar or concrete without cracking. Stackable tubs are more general-purpose, designed for storing tools, materials or waste and can be nested or stacked when empty to save space on site or in a van. Both are built for rough handling, but if you're mixing on a daily basis a mortar tub is the better investment.

Are these containers suitable for outdoor use all year round?

Yes, our heavy duty containers are made from robust, UV-stable plastics designed to cope with UK weather, from summer sun to winter frost. They won't rot, rust or degrade like metal or timber alternatives left outside. That said, we'd always recommend tipping out standing water before a hard freeze to avoid ice expansion cracking the base.

What size container do I need for a typical building site or garden project?

It depends on the job — smaller flexible tubs (around 15-40 litres) suit garden waste, hand-mixing small batches of mortar or general tidying, while larger builders' tubs (65 litres and above) are better for bulk mixing or storing spoil. If you're moving materials by wheelbarrow or need to fit through a standard doorway or gate, check the container's external dimensions before ordering.

Can these tubs handle cement, plaster and other abrasive building materials?

Yes, mortar and builders' tubs in this range are specifically made to take the weight, abrasion and slight chemical exposure of cement, plaster, sand and aggregate. The rigid construction resists cracking under the pressure of a shovel or hoe, and the smooth interior makes it easier to clean out and reuse. For very frequent heavy mixing, choose the thicker-walled mortar tubs over lighter flexible tubs.

Are the flexible tubs strong enough for building site use, or just garden work?

Our flexible tubs are made from a durable, semi-rigid plastic that copes well with knocks, drops and being dragged across rough ground, making them genuinely useful on site as well as at home. They're particularly good for jobs needing a bit of give, such as mixing small amounts of mortar or hauling rubble, where a fully rigid tub might crack on impact. They're not intended to replace a heavy-duty mortar tub for constant daily mixing, though.

Can these containers be stacked or nested for storage and transport?

Most tubs in this range are designed to stack or nest inside one another when empty, which is useful for storage in a yard, van or garage. This also makes it easier to transport multiple units to site in one trip. Check the individual product listing, as wall profile and handle design can affect how tightly they nest.
