CoveredSpill Bunds

A covered spill bund is a secondary containment unit with a lid or roof, designed to store drums, IBCs or tanks of oil, chemicals or other liquids while protecting the contents from rain, debris and UV exposure. The cover also stops rainwater collecting in the bund and diluting or overflowing any captured spillage. They're commonly used both outdoors on yards and forecourts, and indoors in warehouses or plant rooms where extra protection is wanted.

Under current guidance, bunds should hold at least 110% of the capacity of a single tank, or 25% of total stored volume where multiple containers are kept together, whichever is greater. As a rule of thumb, size the bund to comfortably exceed your largest single container plus a margin for splash and safe handling. If you're storing IBCs, our covered bunds are typically sized to suit one, two or four units.

Yes, our covered bunds are built from durable polyethylene or GRP and designed to withstand UK weather conditions year-round. The integral cover keeps rainwater out of the bund and shields drums or IBCs from sun degradation, so contents and containment capacity are preserved. Lockable lids are also available where site security or restricted access is a concern.

Many of our covered bunds are specifically designed to house a single IBC, while larger models accommodate two or four drums together, provided the combined containment requirement is met. Check the internal footprint and containment volume against your container dimensions before ordering, as IBC cages and drum diameters vary. Most covered bunds are freestanding and simply need to be sited on a firm, level surface capable of bearing the full loaded weight — no groundworks or fixing is usually required. That said, always check local site requirements, as some environmental permits or insurance conditions may specify anchoring in exposed locations. Standard covered bund sizes are generally held in stock and can be delivered within a few working days, though this can vary with demand and your location. Larger or bespoke units may take longer to manufacture, so it's worth confirming lead times with us at the point of order if you're working to a tight deadline. Delivery is typically kerbside on a palletised lorry, so access for offloading equipment should be considered in advance.
