Our Classic Showjumps wings are built to standard competition height, typically accommodating poles up to around 1.60m off the ground, suitable for everything from novice schooling to affiliated classes. Cups are pre-drilled at regular intervals so you can adjust fences as riders progress. Yes, the range is built from weather-resistant timber or UV-stabilised material and finished with an exterior-grade coating, so it copes well with UK rain, frost and sun exposure. That said, we'd still recommend storing jumps under cover or using breathable covers over winter to prolong the finish and prevent warping. Regular checks for cracked paint or loose cups will keep them looking sharp for longer.

Our fences are built to standard arena dimensions and use safety cups designed to release under pressure, in line with the general principles used at affiliated shows. However, for official competition use you should always check current British Showjumping equipment rules, as specific requirements can change season to season. For home schooling and unaffiliated shows, the range is more than suitable straight out of the box.

For a basic schooling course of five to six fences with adequate turning and approach distances, most riders find a minimum arena of around 20m x 40m workable, though bigger is better if you're building related distances or grids. Wings need a stable, level surface — a proper arena surface or well-maintained grass paddock both work fine. If space is tight, our smaller wing sets are easier to reposition for varied exercises.

Wings are supplied fully built and poles are ready to use straight from the box — there's no assembly required beyond fitting cups if they're sent detached for transit protection. Given the size of the items, larger orders are usually sent on a pallet via a kerbside delivery service, so someone needs to be on hand to help unload. Delivery timescales vary by stock availability, so check the product page or get in touch before placing a time-sensitive order.

Timber poles offer a traditional look and good weight for realistic jumping practice, but they're heavier to carry and store, and need regular re-painting to protect against rot. Lightweight PVC or foam-filled poles are easier to handle, weatherproof with minimal upkeep, and often preferred for grid work or younger horses due to their forgiving nature if knocked. Choice usually comes down to whether you prioritise authenticity and durability or ease of daily handling.
