A well-functioning BioFicient wastewater treatment system relies on essential parts working in harmony. Here at Tanks Direct, we offer a comprehensive range of BioFicient spares specifically designed to keep your system operating at its peak.

For optimal performance, some BioFicient parts require periodic replacement. We stock essential components like diffuser membranes, responsible for efficient oxygen circulation within the treatment tank. Failing membranes can hinder the wastewater treatment process, so having replacements on hand ensures uninterrupted system function. We also stock air filters that prevent dust and debris from entering the air pump, safeguarding this vital component and ensuring optimal airflow throughout the system.

We also stock various BioFicient accessories to enhance your system's functionality and safety. Explore our selection of alarm systems designed to notify you of potential issues. Early detection allows for prompt intervention, minimising the risk of problems escalating. We also stock lids and riser extensions, providing secure and convenient access to your BioFicient unit for maintenance or inspection. Riser extensions are particularly useful if your BioFicient system is buried underground, allowing for easy access without extensive excavation.

Bioficient Accessories / Spares FAQs

How do I know when my diffuser membrane needs replacing?

A failing diffuser membrane usually shows up as reduced bubbling in the aeration chamber, a change in effluent colour or odour, or the treatment process visibly slowing down. Membranes harden and perforate with age, cutting oxygen transfer to the bacteria that do the treatment work. Most installers recommend checking membranes annually and replacing them every few years as part of routine servicing.

Are BioFicient spares interchangeable with other sewage treatment plant brands?

No — BioFicient components such as diffuser membranes, air filters and blower parts are engineered to specific tolerances for that system's air pump and tank design. Fitting a generic or wrong-fit part can reduce treatment efficiency or damage the blower. Always match spares to your exact BioFicient model to keep the system running as intended and to avoid invalidating any warranty.

How often should the air filter be changed?

As a general rule, air filters should be inspected every three to six months and replaced at least once a year, though dusty or exposed installations may need more frequent changes. A blocked filter starves the air pump of clean air, forcing it to work harder and shortening its life. Replacements are inexpensive compared with a blower repair, so it's worth keeping a spare in stock.

Do I need an alarm system on my BioFicient unit?

An alarm isn't a legal requirement but is strongly recommended, as it gives early warning of power loss, blower failure or high water level before problems escalate into a discharge issue. Most units are simple to retrofit and wire into the existing control panel. Given how much cheaper prevention is than emergency call-outs or non-compliance issues, most owners consider it a worthwhile addition.

When would I need a riser extension rather than just a new lid?

Riser extensions are used when the tank has been installed deeper than standard, for example under a driveway, in sloping ground or below a patio, so that the access point still reaches finished ground level. A lid alone won't help if the chamber neck sits well below the surface — you need the extension to bring access up before fitting a secure cover. Getting the height right is important for safe, easy servicing without excavation each time.

Can I fit BioFicient spares myself, or do I need an engineer?

Straightforward items like air filters and alarm units can generally be swapped by a competent homeowner following the manufacturer's instructions. However, diffuser membranes and any work inside the treatment chamber involve confined space and biological hazards, so we'd recommend using a qualified service engineer. This also helps ensure any manufacturer warranty on the system remains valid.
