TapAnd Hosetail Kits

A hosetail is a barbed spigot fitting designed to take a push-fit or jubilee-clipped hose connection, commonly used for drawing water from a tank via gravity or pump. Tap and hosetail kits combine this fitting with a tap so you can control flow, making them ideal for water butts, rainwater harvesting tanks and IBCs.

It depends on the materials used — check whether the tap and hosetail are listed as WRAS approved before fitting to any tank storing drinking water. Kits made from standard plastic or brass without WRAS certification should only be used on non-potable systems such as rainwater harvesting or irrigation.

Most tanks and IBCs use a standard 1" or ¾" BSP threaded outlet, but this varies by manufacturer and tank age, so it's worth measuring your existing bulkhead fitting or boss before ordering. Our kits typically state the BSP thread size clearly, and adaptors are available if your outlet doesn't match.

Yes, most kits are designed for straightforward DIY installation using PTFE tape on the threads to ensure a watertight seal — no specialist tools are needed beyond an adjustable spanner. If you're fitting into a new bulkhead or drilled hole rather than an existing boss, take care to use the correct size hole saw and a suitable sealing washer.

Common materials include brass, polypropylene and PVC, each suited to different applications — brass offers durability and a good seal for regular use, while polypropylene is lightweight and resists corrosion from chemicals or fertilisers. Choose a material compatible with the contents of your tank, particularly for anything other than plain rainwater.

Not universally — fitment depends on matching the kit's thread size and type to your tank's outlet or bulkhead fitting, so always check compatibility before ordering. IBCs commonly use a 2" coarse thread adaptor down to ¾" or 1" BSP, whereas water butts and smaller tanks often have a direct ½" or ¾" BSP boss.
