Forklift Attachments FAQs
How do I know if a forklift attachment will fit my truck?
Fitment depends on the carriage class of your forklift (commonly ITA/FEM Class II, III or IV) and whether the attachment is hook-on or carriage-mounted. Check your truck's data plate or handbook for the carriage type and load capacity before ordering. If you're unsure, send us your forklift's make, model and carriage size and we'll confirm compatibility.
What's the difference between hook-on and carriage-mounted attachments?
Hook-on attachments slot directly onto the forks themselves and are quick to fit and remove without tools, making them ideal for occasional use. Carriage-mounted attachments bolt directly to the forklift's carriage in place of the forks, giving a more permanent, secure fixing for heavy or repetitive tasks. Carriage-mounted options generally offer higher load ratings and less movement under load.
Will fitting an attachment reduce my forklift's lifting capacity?
Yes — any attachment adds weight and shifts the load centre away from the forklift's mast, which reduces the truck's rated capacity to some degree. This is known as de-rating, and the amount depends on the attachment's weight and the load's centre of gravity. Always check the combined capacity chart or ask your forklift supplier before working near the truck's maximum rating.
What attachments are available for handling drums, bales or awkward loads?
We supply drum handlers and clamps for lifting and rotating steel or plastic drums, bale clamps for waste, textile or agricultural bales, and rotators for tipping bins or skips. Fork extensions, jibs and load stabilisers are also popular for oversized or irregular loads in construction and logistics. Do forklift attachments need a separate LOLER inspection?
Yes — under LOLER (Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations), attachments are classed as lifting accessories and require thorough examination, typically every six or twelve months depending on use. This is separate from the forklift truck's own inspection schedule. Keep records of both to stay compliant and safe on site.
Can you supply forklift attachments in sizes or specifications not listed on the site?
Yes, many of our attachments can be supplied in bespoke widths, capacities or fixings to suit specific trucks or applications. Contact our Materials Handling Sales Team with your requirements and we'll source or specify the right option. Lead times for bespoke attachments are typically longer than stock items, so it's worth enquiring early if you're working to a deadline.
