A fire point is a dedicated, clearly marked location where firefighting equipment — typically a hose reel, extinguisher and signage — is kept ready for immediate use. Many sites with a static water supply, sprinkler tank or hydrant connection are required to have one under fire risk assessment guidance or insurer conditions. If you're storing water for firefighting purposes, a properly equipped fire point ensures that supply can actually be put to use in an emergency.

This depends on the distance from your water source or hydrant to the areas you need to cover, plus the flow rate required. Standard layflat hoses are commonly supplied in 19mm, 25mm or larger diameters, with 30m lengths being typical for site use, though longer runs can be coupled together. As a rule, undersized hose reduces flow pressure at the nozzle, so check your fire risk assessment or consult a fire safety professional before ordering.

Our adaptor range is designed to work with instantaneous couplings as used by UK fire and rescue services, as well as standard threaded connections found on hose reels and hydrants. There's no single mandatory British Standard for the stand itself, but extinguishers should be sited so they're visible, unobstructed and mounted at an accessible height in line with BS 5306-8 guidance. A stand or bracket keeps extinguishers off the floor, preventing damage and trip hazards, and helps ensure they're where staff and fire wardens expect to find them during an inspection. Wall-mounted brackets or freestanding stands both satisfy this as long as positioning is clearly signed.

Hoses, nozzles and extinguishers can be sited outdoors at a fire point, but prolonged exposure to UV and damp can degrade rubber seals, hose fabric and metal fittings over time. We'd recommend a weatherproof cabinet or storage box for any equipment kept outside, particularly on construction sites or agricultural premises where kit is exposed year-round. This also keeps everything together and ready to grab quickly in an emergency.
