Eco Products FAQs

What actually qualifies a product for the Eco Products collection?

Every product here either contains a significant proportion of recycled material, is fully recyclable once it reaches the end of its working life, or directly helps you recycle or reuse water on site. We select these based on manufacturer data and material composition rather than marketing claims, so you can be confident the "eco" label means something.

Are tanks made from recycled polyethylene as strong as those made from virgin material?

Yes — reputable manufacturers use reprocessed MDPE or HDPE that's tested to the same structural standards as virgin-material tanks, including BS EN 12573 where applicable. The recycled content doesn't compromise wall thickness, impact resistance or UV stability, it simply reduces the raw material footprint of manufacture.

Can I use a recycled-material tank to store drinking water?

Most tanks in this range are intended for non-potable use such as rainwater harvesting, garden irrigation or greywater storage, rather than wholesome drinking water. If you need potable storage, check the product listing for WRAS approval specifically, as not all recycled-content tanks carry this certification.

What happens to these products once they reach the end of their usable life?

Polyethylene tanks and water butts in this range can be reprocessed and turned into new plastic products, unlike GRP (fibreglass) tanks which are harder to recycle due to their composite construction. This means less landfill waste and a genuine closed-loop lifecycle for the material.

Do eco-friendly products carry the same guarantees as standard tanks and butts?

Yes, using recycled content doesn't affect the manufacturer's warranty terms — you'll get the same cover as you would on our standard ranges. Installation and maintenance requirements are also identical, so there's no compromise on peace of mind.

What are these products typically used for?

The most common applications are rainwater harvesting for garden watering, greywater reuse for flushing toilets, and water butts for smaller domestic collection. Larger recycled poly tanks are also used for flood attenuation and general non-potable storage where reducing embodied carbon matters to the specification.
