New updates to the General Binding Rules
Owners of sewage treatment plants in England & Wales need to look out for two new updates to the General Binding Rules, which came into effect in 2nd October 2023.
These updates apply to tanks that discharge into water sources, and are designed to protect the water quality of our lakes, rivers, and streams etc.
Essentially, the combined volume of the discharge from tanks and any other discharges into the same water body must not exceed the government's limits. Plus, tanks must be more than 50m from any other activity that discharges water into the ground or surface water.
